As I drove into the “J” Family’s driveway I looked up to see Mom sitting in a chair putting the final touches on a sweet little girls hair. I got out of my car and was greeted with the joyful chatter of a young boy who was eager to show me his most awesome sunglasses. After just a moment, I felt as if I’d known the “J” family for years. They were welcoming, happy, excited, and open. I knew immediately that I would love these people.
We walked around their house together and I stood back as they did what they do naturally–enjoy their own little slice of heaven in their own backyard. They grabbed fishing poles and stood on their dock and let the little ones lead. I watched, amazed at the surroundings that this family enjoys on a daily basis. They talked easily and laughed effortlessly and the charm of this family made me wish I’d known them for much long.
Later, Sara told me how much she values capturing moments with her family. She told me how aware she is of the brevity of life. She explained that she sees beyond the ‘pretty picture’ and sees memories preserved forever. Sara gets it. The value of time. The passage of time. The preservation of time.
This is why I do this. This matters.
Shawn and Sara, thank you for the joy of spending an evening with your wonderful crew. I am better for it.
