As I noticed the deadline for our 30-minutes approaching, I made plans in my head about what I would do. I thought about taking a trip to a city and capturing our time there. I envisioned big buildings and crowded streets met with wide-eyed little ones as we explored new surroundings. I foresaw experiences that would be so different than our usual vast landscapes and natural surroundings. It would be big and beautiful and different. It was going to be so cool.
However, life happens, plans are lost somewhere between life and sleep, and what was supposed to be perfect never actually happens.
I was a little bummed as began sorting through my September pictures. There were no city streets and big buildings. There was nothing different. and spectacular.
No, there was nothing different, but there was plenty spectacular. It’s true, my hard drive is filled with images of us, all of us, existing in our natural world. Vast landscapes and discovery are our norm. I wouldn’t have it any other way.
On this particular evening, we were driving home from a day away and decided to pull over for a bit just to chill out and relax. What we may lack in cultural experiences, we make up for with an ability to find joy in our simple surroundings.
We do dirt and earth well. . .
I guess what I learned (or I was reminded) is that I don’t have to create moments to be spectacular. The spectacular is already there–I just have to have the eyes to see it.

the grass is always greener, summer! i am surrounded by big buildings and people bustling on the street, and i would love nothing more than to take photos like yours in the spacious countryside 🙂 these are just gorgeous — i love love love the photos of your girls holding the flowers!!!
Gorgeous photo's Summer. As Colleen says the grass is always greener – I wish we had open spaces like that, but then I may not see the nature I see right now. My favorite is the close up of your older daughter, it is just stunning and the bokeh is to die for lol. I also love the one with your little one with her hands on her hips. That is too cute. Thanks for sharing.
Summer you never cease to amaze me. These are incredible. The ones of your daughter holding the flowers– my favorites. Absolutely gorgeous, all of them. I miss Ohio so so much.
Summer – everything you shoot is spectacular. I am always drawn in by every single image. As Colleen said – the grass is always greener…..You have definitely reminded me that the everyday is spectacular, if we just open our eyes to see it <3
Yup, you ooze spectacular. I love everything you do. These are so beautiful.
Ummmm, these are breathtaking! You're everyday is spectacular to me!!! Also, please don't ever leave our group. I just look forward to you every month.
Every image I have ever seen of yours is outstanding. This 30 minutes is just perfection. I especially adore the little one, ribs showing in her beautiful pink dress, standing with such attitude and personality while the sun sets her hair alight. I love the sense of happy movement and the tiny silhouettes are truly breath-taking.
I love your family outdoor adventures and reminders to appreciate the beauty wherever we are!! These are so beautiful. So glad we had you back this month
You do earth and dirt so well. These are stunning, and I love this 30 minutes..as always.
The spectacular is most certainly there and you never fail to capture it so beautifully! Sixth image down, with your little one looking so full of sass yet so delicate is just exquisite! Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous!
