One Wild and Precious Life. . .

I’m a bit nervous–my first blog post.  Okay, it’s not really my first blog post–it’s just my first blog post as SummerK.  I’ve been blogging over at Running Chatter for almost three years, and really, Running Chatter is where my photographic journey began.  However, I think the time is right to separate my personal blog from this one–which will be intended for photography clients, my photographic journey and other photography projects.

I won’t go into all the details of how I got here.  That would take years of posts to explain.  For now I will say this–for almost a year I have been asking myself Mary Oliver’s question–what is it that you plan to do with this one wild and precious life.
I was working as a Professional Counselor and enjoyed my job a great deal.  However, when I took a few steps into photography I began to understand the difference between enjoying a job and being passionate about a job.

One day my MIL sent me this quote by by Seth Godin. . . The challenge of our time is to find a journey worthy of your heart and your soul.

I think my MIL already knew what I was scared to admit–photography is my hearts desire.

For months, despite the voices of loved ones cheering me on, I struggled to make the decision to take the full plunge and devote my time to my art.  My husband, my dad, my sister, and close friends all knew and encouraged me toward the passion in my heart. . .

The passion of capturing moments.

So here I am.  Excited, tentative, and hopeful that the journey ahead will be all that I hope it will be.  I could go on, but I’d rather introduce myself with images. . .

I absolutely love to capture everyday life.  People in their element.  Real moments and especially the natural relationships that occur between people.  This is how I began to see the world and everyday life differently.  Through the lens of the camera I began to see how extraordinary an ordinary day really is.

I think photography is like life.  I never expected to find myself where I am today, but life unfolded in the most beautiful way and evolved into what it is today.  I have a feeling that this is what will happen in my photography journey, as well.  I have no doubt that it will be ever evolving and unfolding over time.

At this point, I’m quite content to just enjoy the journey. . .

Thank you for stopping by!  Client sessions will be coming soon!
