Nate. Senior Class, 2020.

There was a time, when I first dipped my toe into photography, when I said senior portraits are not my thing.

I’m grateful that I didn’t say it too loud–or with too much conviction. Turns out, I love photographing seniors. Not (only) for the picture taking, though. There is so much more.

How wonderful it is to listen to them talk. To hear about their hopes and dreams. To hear about some of the lessons they’ve learned in their 17 or 18 years of life. How inspiring it is to hear their dreams projected, their lessons rooted. It’s not that they are just beginning life–they are continuing a life that has been deeply lived.

Nate is a senior and so smart and funny and incredibly laid back. He knows who he is and what he wants. Listening to him was a joy–photographing him, a pleasure.

Nate, may you walk boldly down the road before you. Congratulations on your senior year!
